Funded by Karrinyup Rotary and a $13,637 Federal Government grant, the seating will serve as an iconic meeting place for Mooro Country Tour organisers who conduct walking tours at Lake Gwelup Reserve.
Mr Keenan said he looked forward to seeing greater participation numbers now that the project was complete.
“Stirling has such a rich and vibrant indigenous culture and these tours provide a great educational experience for both families and individuals around Lake Gwelup and Star Swamp,” Mr Keenan said.
“Residents have the opportunity to gain an insight into the history and culture of Aboriginal people from local elders in Stirling and I invite everyone to participate.”
The new seating area is located just off Huntriss road in Gwelup and has been constructed using durable, low maintenance materials to fit in with the aesthetics of the Reserve.
When not in use, the area provides a resting place for residents exercising or walking dogs, allowing them to sit and enjoy the natural scenery at the reserve.
“The Federal Government is committed to supporting local organisations and I’m pleased to have worked with the Rotary Club of Karrinyup to see this funding delivered,” Mr Keenan said.
Mooro Country Tours operate in association with Balga’s Wadjak Northside Aboriginal Community Group. For more information, please contact Michael Keenan’s office on (08) 9445 3222.
