Delivering safer communities in Stirling
Federal Member for Stirling Michael Keenan has announced funding of $180,000 under the Federal Government’s Safer Communities Fund to expand the CCTV network within the City of Stirling.

Mr Keenan said the funding will play a vital role in deterring crime and anti-social behaviour in the local area, and will assist security patrols and police to catch offenders.

“As we all know, CCTV and security infrastructure has been a pivotal factor in both solving and preventing crimes,” Mr Keenan said.

“The City of Stirling security patrol operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and covers 360,000 kilometres each year across Stirling suburbs. On a daily basis they patrol the entire Stirling community.

“This project will deliver 60 CCTV cameras and associated infrastructure to be mounted on to security and ranger patrol vehicles, which will provide continuous recording while the vehicles are operational on Stirling roads.”

The installation will enable the City to assist WA Police with their investigations into a range of unlawful activities, and provide evidentiary footage to assist with complaint management.

“This is in addition to the 350 CCTV cameras already placed in Stirling’s crime hot spots and central business districts, all of which are registered on the WA Police CCTV Register Blue Iris.”

Importantly, funding being provided comes from the Proceeds of Crime account – money taken from criminals and reinvested into preventing them from committing more crimes.

“Crime has no place in the Stirling community, and we will continue to reinvest money confiscated from criminals, and put those funds towards projects that make our streets, communities and our nation safer.”

The Safer Communities Fund is a grassroots level programme to assist local communities address crime and anti-social behaviour and support crime prevention initiatives. Further information is available at www.ag.gov.au/CrimeAndCorruption/CrimePrevention/Pages/default.aspx
