The commitment was announced by Federal Member for Stirling Michael Keenan in 2016 under the Coalition’s Stronger Communities Programme and is now complete.
Mr Keenan said the upgrade has allowed for greater flexibility for training, games and events.
“Previously only three of the four lighting towers have been in operation which has made it difficult to make full use of the sporting ground in the evening,” Mr Keenan said.
“Millington Reserve is used by a number of sporting groups and residents each week but it is the home of football for the Scarborough Amateur Football Club.
“This funding has helped ensure greater visibility across the whole ground and improved security for players, coaches and supporters of the club at night.
“In addition, it has also increased opportunities for local Stirling residents to participate in recreational activities such as walking and dog exercise at the Reserve in the evening.”
The Stronger Communities Programme supports small capital projects in local communities across Australia, with 50 percent of the project costs provided by the Federal Government. Forty-five million dollars has been secured for local communities under the project since 2015.
“The Coalition Government is dedicated to supporting the continued growth of community sport across Australia, and I am pleased to have seen this local project funded.”
