Federal Member for Stirling Michael Keenan has congratulated more than 100 new residents who have made the pledge to call Australia home during a special Australia Day citizenship ceremony this morning.
Mr Keenan today welcomed the 112 new Australian citizens from countries across the globe including the UK, Ireland, India, Iran, South Africa, Egypt, Kenya, Ghana, the USA and New Zealand.
“I’d like to congratulate our newest residents on making a formal commitment to share in Australia’s beliefs, values and freedoms. There truly is no better place to live and raise a family,” Mr Keenan said.
“I look forward to the great contribution that you will all make to our local community.”
Today a record number of people received their Australian citizenship with 16,212 individuals from 146 nationalities participating in ceremonies across the country.
A number of events were also held across the Stirling electorate to celebrate our national day including an Australia Day Community Citizen of the Year Awards Ceremony, Australia Day BBQs in both North Beach and Scarborough, and an Australia Day Breakfast in Nollamara.
