On Sunday I was proud to be among the thousands of residents attending commemorative service events across Stirling to mark exactly 100 years since the end of the First World War.
It was an honour to attend the North Beach RSL’s Remembrance Day service – a moving ceremony which reflected on the suffering and sacrifice of those who fought to defend our great country.
This year the Coalition’s Armistice Centenary Grants Program provided funding for a number of local commemorative events, including a $12,000 grant for the North Beach RSL’s public service.
The General Sir John Monash RSL in Dianella also received more than $5,000 to install a commemorative plaque, and Balcatta Senior High School was provided with an $11,000 grant for a public art exhibition to mark the historic occasion.
These projects help to create a lasting legacy for 102,000 Australians who have lost their lives fighting for our country in all wars, conflicts and peacekeeping missions.
They will also help to educate younger generations about the sacrifices of our serving Defence Force personnel now, and into the future.
Lest We Forget.
