Federal Member for Stirling Michael Keenan is encouraging local sporting and community organisations to help get Australians active, and apply for funding to boost participation in physical activity.
The Coalition Government today launched the Move it AUS – Participation Grant Program which will provide $28.9 million over four years to sporting, non-government and local government organisations to create and implement programs that will inspire inactive Australians to get moving.
Mr Keenan said the grant program is aimed at targeting groups at risk of inactivity, and attracting people of all ages and abilities to participate in sport.
“The benefits of physical activity are so clear but it’s not only about health and fitness,” Mr Keenan said.
“Sport is also important for mental health, wellbeing and social cohesion which help both children and adults to live a happy, healthy life.
“It’s important the sports sector and our community organisations help to improve access to physical activity, especially for populations at risk of inactivity,” Mr Keenan said.
The four year program is part of the 2018-19 Liberal-Nationals Government Budget investment of $230 million in a range of physical activity initiatives.
Applications open today and close on February 18. Guidelines and details on the application process are be available at https://www.sportaus.gov.au/grants_and_funding/participation
